Overview
The Hui Cui 6‑Sided Violet Sandalwood Gaohu is a refined ensemble-focused gaohu designed for players who want a tone that is sweet, warm, and smooth — never sharp or overly aggressive.
Built with the same hexagonal 6‑sided body (similar handling to an erhu), this model is especially comfortable for erhu players purchasing their first gaohu, while still delivering professional playability for ensemble, orchestra, and solo use.
Compared to the Black Sandalwood version, the Violet Sandalwood variation offers a gentler, warmer sound, making it even easier to blend naturally with Erhu and Zhonghu sections.
Tone & Sound Character
This model produces a warmer and sweeter tone, with a calm clarity that stays pleasant across registers:
Smooth and balanced inner & outer strings
Less bright, more rounded sound profile
Clean and clear response without harshness
Musical warmth that blends beautifully in group settings
It retains the “erhu-like” smoothness of the original design, but with an even softer edge, making it ideal for players who dislike jarring or piercing gaohu timbre.

Important Note (SG Honest Advice)
This violet sandalwood version is even less piercing and less overbearing than the black sandalwood one — which is a big plus for ensemble blending.
However:
It will also stand out less if you prefer a gaohu sound that cuts through strongly
Players seeking a very traditional “sharp and projecting” gaohu tone may prefer other models
